The Fascination of Chemistry (and everything else)

Wed May 11, 2005, 7:27 AM
I decided that I quite liked my mad ramble so I'm posting it here too ;) READ IT!!! And give it some thought!
---------------------------------------- --------------------------------

Chemistry has always fascinated me, not in the fact that it's very technical, but rather because of the fact that it is in reference to how this world operates. You see, if something relates to you, you automatically find it interesting

I always had the impression that science was against religion, but what I discovered was quite the opposite. Science does not disprove of a controlling force/creator (ie, God) but rather proves it. How?? Well, the fact that we exist is something quite remarkable in itself isn’t it??
Everything is constructed by how atoms react to each other. Even the fact that protons and electrons keep each other together is something of a miracle in itself. Such detail is quite mind boggling considering how miniscule the atom is. Coincidence?? Perhaps...perhaps not...
What amazes me even further is the fact that life was created from these atoms...or so we like to believe-->;a bolt of lightning strikes some molecules and voila we have a bacterium…but scientists haven’t actually achieve that yet…so where did life come from?? And to develop into a complex beings like ourselves can only prove one thing…there is something out there that made us…freaky isn’t it?? Evolution can explain to a certain extent, but to be truthful, it has its limits. Mutations?? To such a LARGE EXTENT?? To this day, I can’t say that there are many mutations that are advantageous to the human race, perhaps only one…like the sickle blood cell (but that only applies to carriers, not the people who have it in full which leads to anaemia)

“It is entirely in line with the accidental nature of mutations that extensive tests have agreed in showing the vast majority of them detrimental to the organism in its job of surviving and reproducing, just as changes accidentally introduced into any artificial mechanism are predominantly harmful to its useful operation . Good ones are so rare that we can consider them all bad.
-- H.J. Muller,”

I think mutations don't really go anywhere, and natural selection only can 'select' so much...since mutations are basically out of the question. The conclusion?? I'll leave that for YOU to decide.
---------------------------------------- -------------------
Take care, and give some thought to the amazing-ness of the world around you! Don't be blinded by what you take for granted...STOP and think and realise:)

"I can only show you the door...you're the one who has to walk through it..."

Toodles! :lick:

Haha, you have a point there. Yeah, I suppose it would be dishonest for me to say I'm not gifted at all. I may not be a prodigy, but at least, I have been gifted with the years and the finances my parents have graciously pumped into me :D So, yes, I'm VERY gifted, but a different sense of gifted :P
